Long Holiday Weekend! And An Opinion Survey?
I am up to my eyeballs in bag orders, so you know what I'll be doing along with a little sock knitting, too...here's a shot of my Claudia Ingrid's Blues sock after last night's Knit Night - The Meezer has just met Miss Muffin and I'm not sure she approves...
Who ARE you? You're not flat, but you sure don't have much personality!
I'm participating in the Third Knitter's Coffee Swap and will be making one of the contest prizes. So this weekend I'm also going to try to make a couple of coffee-themed Posy Sock Sacks. I have some of the cutest fabrics! And the Coffee Swap is one of the very BEST swaps I've participated in! You might want to see if there's still space?
Stay tuned to Nana Sadie Rose and I'll post photos before the weekend is over...
Hey...I'm thinking of buying a swift. Which did you buy...the clamp-on-the-table style or the table-top version and why? Your opinion matters!
edited to add: OH! What about THIS one? (ok...forget about price for the moment, I'm after something that will last, work well, and not look awful on the table, because it's going to stay out and up! Remember I look at this stuff as an investment in my future retirement needs - like my 401(k)nit account!lolol)

I have the clamp on kind of swift. I was afraid the other kind would fall off the table.
I started with the table top model. And, as Carole predicted, it fell off the table. MANY times. I know own the clamp on style. No more fallen swifts, or tangled yarn messes.
I have one of the plastic clamp on styles because - it was cheap and it's easy to store away when not in use. It works fine for me.
Love that picture of the Meezer and Miss Muffin! I have the clamp on swift because when I bought it they didn't *have* table top swifts. I'm not sure what I'd buy now that I have a choice.
Love the look on Meezer's face! Too priceless...
Regarding swifts, I bought the Nifty Swifty and unlike, Dave and Carole, I don't have much in the way of tabletop spin-outs. My decision was influenced partly by finding the best value for the money, and by ease of storage. Nifty fits the bill for me, except for very large or heavy hanks of yarn.
I am intrigued by the Beka and the Schact models, though.
I bought the Mama Bear tabletop swift from Oregon Woodworker (or something like that). It's beautiful wood, has never fallen off the table, is completely adjustable for just about any size skein, and is actually quite low tech.
It's also portable and never ever snags yarn.
I have the clamp on style, and it works great. In a pinch, I put in on a chair back and have it go sideways.
I have the Nifty Swift and I've never had any mishaps at all...even wound a full pound of laceweight yarn (3000 yards!!) off it with no problem at all! I love mine!
Oh I would love to have a swift, but they are expensive!!!
I think I am grading papers this weekend :(
I have the wooden one from Joanns...love it!!!
Hi Sallee,
I don't know much about knitting, some...but Meezer and Miss Muffin are cute!
