I Bought A Nook...

Part of me is terribly excited and part of me is just realizing that while this will certainly curtail my library shelving needs (at least where routine reading is concerned) it certainly isn't going to save me money, and I'll still buy knitting books, after all...

It didn't take me long to realize that having a Nook means, to B&N, spending more money with THEM...first they wanted me to buy "accessories" - tho' the clerk did stress that any ear buds I had with the right kind of connector would do (and I do have them, thankfully)...but then there's the stand to keep it upright. And there will be a need to buy a wireless hub, as I don't have one. And of course the cover...Well. You know how I feel about such things, don't you?

If I need something like that, I can certainly make something:

So I pulled out some fabric and stuff to cushion and protect and began to measure and design...

A single pocket...a fold or two...
A neat button/loop closure

I think, however, that The Tonk finds it all a bit intrusive. (And yes, I caught it before it hit the floor, he was up and away pretty quickly after I took that shot)

So, who has a Nook and what do you think of it?

(and yes, mine's a ColorNook - I kinda thought it might be helpful to be able to check email from wherever)

Oh, that's cool! We have a Kindle, and my husband loves it (haven't wrestled it away from him long enough to read anything there yet).

He really really still wants an Ipad... Stay tuned... But the Nook with its colors is a wonderful thing. And that cover is perfect! It reminds me of the covers we had to put on our textbooks in school.

Excellent cover! Very nice :) That's not the kind of thing I'm so good at...

Well, you know how I feel about my nook! I love it :) I can check email on mine, too, although I don't tend to - but I do love being able to buy a book from the comfort of my bed at night!!

Received my Nook (Sasenach) Valentine's Day, 2010. L O V E it! I particularly like that I can check out books from our library on-line and read them (Kindle can't).

I recently subscribed to Nook's Ellery Queen Mystery mag for about $4/month. First one was 400 pages of good reading - yum!

There's a Nook group on Ravelry, by the way.

Congrats on your new Nook! I have a black-and-white Nook and love it. It makes reading so much more pleasant, because I can make the font as large as I want. No more struggling with the tiny font in the NY Times Book Review, for example.

I like subscribing to magazines on the Nook, because there is nothing to recycle. I didn't buy anything extra to go with it, except a cover that it snaps into. I never have to take it out of the cover because the front of the cover flips backward and has a magnetic clasp.

I find I do not need any kind of stand - it's easy to prop up against anything, or on my leg, for reading while knitting. And I did not need to buy a wireless router, because I have the 3G model - no need for wireless.

I am very pleased with it!

I have an older Kindle which I purchased used from an internet friend who was looking to upgrade. I like it because I can read while I knit really simple things, and it is so portable.
I hadn't read much since I started knitting and between the Kindle and my Audible account I have gotten a few books in.

The cover is totally cool, I have a sony ereader which I am totally in love with. The first one I had was a PRS 500 that crapped out. They replaced it with the PRS 600 and I still love it. I think with your Nook you can check out library books online, but on reading comment I see someone shared that with you, that will save you tons of money.

what a great cover... do I sense a new item for you to sell... it would probably work for the Ipad, and all the other readers as well!

Congratulations on the Nook! I have an iPad, as I also use it at work to read scientific papers. I have a program that lets me read their format and highlight and annotate the papers, and then it syncs them with my laptop computer, which has the "grown-up" version of the same software.

I do like reading for pleasure on the iPad too. There are many free or very inexpensive books available. I bet they are available from B/N too.

Happy reading!

Very nice! I'm not a fan of these readers but your cover makes it special to look at.
